What supplies will my student need for your class?
For ELA, students need to bring a pen, pencil, and their planner to class everyday, as well as their school-assigned iPad, but they also need to have a two-pocket folder and a composition book for daily notes and bell work that will remain in the classroom.
What is Standards Based Grading, and how does it affect my child?
Standards Based Grading is an attitude towards education that focuses on the true understanding of concepts. As the Excelsior Springs Middle School website states, "The purpose of standards-based grading is to improve student achievement by focusing instruction and the alignment of curriculum with the essential standards. Standards-based grading and reporting will provide better communication to students, parents, teachers and administrators on what each student knows and is able to do according to the identified standards and separately assess the influence of positive and consistent work habits on student learning." If you would like to find out more about our approach to Standards Based Grading, you can access the Assessment & Grading Handbook here.
How can I find out what my student's grade is in your class?
Excelsior Springs Middle School uses PowerSchool to track student progress in their classes. If you need to find out your parent log-in information for PowerSchool for Parents, please contact the middle school at (816) 630-9230.
